The Week Ahead 21 – 27 July 2025
Delegations
Foreign affairs/US. A delegation from the Foreign Affairs Committee will travel to Washington DC and Richmond, Virginia. MEPs will meet several congressional representatives and senators, and representatives of the State Department, National Security Council and think tanks. They will discuss how to deepen transatlantic ties, enhance collective security, reinforce the shared commitment to supporting Ukraine, and tackle other common challenges (Monday to Thursday).
Economic affairs/US. MEPs from the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will travel to California to discuss company mergers, venture capital and public financing, as well as the policy and regulatory framework driving California’s innovation economy. The MEPs will meet, among others, with representatives from Apple, PayPal, StartX, and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. They will also meet institutional investors and state legislators (Monday to Thursday).
Mercosur/Brazil. A delegation from the International Trade Committee will travel to Brasília and São Paulo, Brazil, with the aim of advancing the dialogue on the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement and strengthening trade relations with Brazil. The MEPs will meet ministers and public officials, as well as representatives from industry, civil society and think tanks, to discuss the political, economic, and environmental dimensions of the agreement (Monday to Wednesday).
Recovery and Resilience Facility/Italy. A delegation from the Working Group on the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), composed of members of the Budgets and Economic and Monetary Affairs Committees, will travel to Rome. The MEPs will examine Italy's RRF governance and antifraud controls and visit three RRF-funded projects. They will meet with ministers, auditors, and representatives of unions, industry and regional authorities (Tuesday to Thursday).
Tax policies/Ireland. Members of the Tax Matters Subcommittee will be in Dublin for a day of discussions on tax policies, the fight against tax avoidance and tax simplification. The objectives are to gain a better grasp of Irish tax policies and to have in-person meetings with key policy-makers, tax authorities, business representatives and stakeholders (Tuesday).
Foreign interference/Taiwan. A group of MEPs from the Special Committee on the Democracy Shield will travel to Taipei, where they will meet with national authorities, civil society representatives, think tanks and international partners. They will discuss issues and measures relating to democratic resilience, foreign interference, cybersecurity and disinformation campaigns (Monday to Wednesday).
